Summary of Eugene Barrett’s Crimes
Eugene Barrett shot his ex-girlfriend Annie E. Phillips 4 times while she was tending to her youngest child in her apartment. Barrett was sentenced to life imprisonment, which was later reduced to a 15-to-50 years imprisonment, and in 1967 he was paroled.
After his release, he married Roberta Ululani Aveiro in 1971. Roberta filed for divorce a year later due to excessive drinking, which was also the reason for his split from Annie E. Phillips. Barrett stabbed Roberta multiple times in the hotel room she was staying in and he was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after pleading guilty to manslaughter. Barret was later paroled in 1976.
After his second release, he developed a complicated relationship with his neighbor Doneshia "RoxAnne" Kastner. There was no confirmed intimate relations between the two, but he became fixated on her. His jealousy overcame him and he admitted himself voluntarily to a psychiatric treatment center for fear of hurting RoxAnne. He was released from the treatment center in August of 1995 and just a few days later, he shot RoxAnne twice in the head.
